I thought I had better post this before the details disappear. This gold pocket watch was auctioned by Ewbanks, perhaps in September 2011, with the description:
"Gentleman's 18ct gold open faced pocket watch by Daniel Buckney (Maker to The Admiralty, London), with a crown wind movement, sweep second hand, white enamel dial, Roman numerals and signed and numbered circa 1899; together with a dress watch chain stamped 9ct on the T-bar and 15ct on the links. Length 29cm, weight 17grams
PROVENANCE; This watch belonged to Joseph King (1860-1943) and was given to the present vendor by his widow"

It was sold for £1,300, higher than the estimate of £800-£1,200.
What an elegant watch! I wonder who Maude gave it to?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your e mail. I will reply properly ASAP.
Best wishes to you and your family.x
Happy New Year! It would be nice to catch up with you.
ReplyDeleteI think it was the second wife, Helena, who gave the watch away when she was a widow. Let's see if the auctioneer is able to help!
